Paid Family and Medical Leave Bill Passes House of Delegates

Earlier today, the House of Delegates passed the Paid Family and Medical Leave bill introduced by Senator Jennifer Boysko-this bill would provide paid leave for workers throughout Virginia, which has been long overdue. This is the first time a statewide family and leave bill has passed both the House and Senate-legislators realize that workers should not have to choose between earning their wages and taking extended time off to celebrate a new baby or to care of a sick child, parent, or even themselves.

"Paid family and medical leave is both an economic justice issue and a racial justice issue. The racial wealth gap means that people of color and their families are less likely to have the resources needed to soften the economic impact of unforeseen caregiving needs, and this bill will help ease that burden," said Tram Nguyen, co-executive director of New Virginia Majority.

We hope Governor Youngkin will sign this bill into law and provide all working Virginians with a level of economic stability while ensuring they can take care of their families as well.
