Organizers Launch People’s Platform for the Working-Class in Loudoun
Leesburg, Va. - On September 27, 2023 at 7 p.m., New Virginia Majority (NVM) and organizers will launch the Loudoun People’s Platform in front of the Loudoun County Government Center (1 Harrison St. SE).
The Loudon People’s Platform is a coalition of local organizations composed of SEIU Virginia 512, Loudoun Education Association, NAACP Loudoun Branch, Northern Virginia Labor Federation AFL-CIO, and ATU Local 689. Organizations have come together to build the power of working people and communities of color by advocating for workers rights, affordable housing, public education, racial justice, and voting rights.
NVM campaign coordinator Sofia Saiyed said, “New Virginia Majority is honored to come together in this historic alliance of labor and community organizations fighting for racial and economic justice in Loudoun County. We're laying out a vision that centers on issues most important to working people.”
“Each of our organizations has a mission and vision where we support different social objectives. We firmly believe that if we unite, the results will be greater, and we will be stronger,” said Ivin Castro, a local resident and NVM member.
Raymond Jackson, President of ATU (Amalgamated Transit Union) Local 689 President, said: "We have seen that it takes all of us standing in solidarity to push back against folks like Keolis who would leave our members, the riding public, and the whole county on the side of the road if it means making an extra dollar."
Sandy Sullivan, President of Loudoun Education Association, said: “Together we will ensure Loudoun's students, families, communities, residents and workers are informed, activated and supported in order to provide for the current and future needs of Loudoun County.”
